Why Today?

On February 13th, 2004, Joel undergoes a reciprocal memory erasure procedure after his ex-girlfriend Clementine undergoes the process first. During the erasure process, Joel experiences the memory fragments in a series of flashbacks and dream sequences with a non-linear narrative that blurs and twists the lines between memories, allowing for fresh introspection and insight on the experiences.
