Dick

(1999)

Today, to commemorate Richard Nixon's birthday, we choose 'Dick', a late 1990's comedy satire centered around Watergate.

Synopsis

'Dick' is a comedy and political satire film following the story of two high school girls, Betsy and Arlene, who accidentally stumble upon the Watergate scandal. After unexpectedly meeting President Nixon's dog, they find themselves employed by the White House. Their innocence and naïveté inadvertently lead them to uncovering vital information about the scandal, ultimately becoming key witnesses in the historical political events of the Watergate era. The movie humorously blends fiction with the real-life historical events surrounding the Nixon administration, offering a comedic take on a significant moment in American history.

Why Today?

Richard 'Dick' Nixon was born on January 9, 1913. While there are many film portrayals of Nixon we could've gone with here (some more weighty than others), and some that are more representative of his formative years, a relatively light, somewhat underrated movie seems like a good choice for today. Spoiler: this won't be the last of Nixon/Watergate we see this year.
