Schindler's List

(1993)

Today, in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we choose Schindler's List.

Synopsis

Schindler's List, directed by Steven Spielberg, is a powerful and haunting portrayal of the Holocaust. The film tells the story of Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson), a German businessman who saves over a thousand Polish Jews from the Nazis by employing them in his factories. As Schindler witnesses the atrocities committed by the Nazis, he transforms from a profit-driven opportunist to a compassionate savior.

Why Today?

January 27th is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Schindler's List played a significant role in shaping public awareness about the Holocaust to a global audience in a deeply impactful way. Having won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, 'Schindler's List' holds a place in the top 10 of the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest American Films of All Time list.

"Rising brilliantly to the challenge of this material and displaying an electrifying creative intelligence, Mr. Spielberg has made sure that neither he nor the Holocaust will ever be thought of in the same way again. With every frame, he demonstrates the power of the filmmaker to distill complex events into fiercely indelible images."
