Review

I typically find biopics, especially of musicians, to be boring, predictable, and overly formulaic. While this one falls into the traditional trappings of a biopic, it sets itself apart by the electrifying performances of Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. Their on-screen chemistry is exceptionally good, and both give believable performances of their counterparts. Witherspoon is especially captivating, and rightfully deserving of her Academy Award for Best Actress.
